The application of all/none; most; both/neither; another; other; the other; the second
We use all of, most of and none with plural nouns, uncountable nouns and object pronouns:
- All of the children were playing football.
- Most of the oranges are sweet.
- None of us speak German.
Both (of) and neither (of) are used to talk about two people or things:
- Both of my sisters are ginger.
- Neither of his students was clever.
- Neither brother has grey hair.
We can use other with singular uncountable nouns and with plural nouns:
- Other travel information can be obtained by calling the freephone number.
- Some music calms people; other music has the opposite effect.
The other is used with plural countable nouns:
- I don’t like this red dress. I prefer the other colour.
- His right arm was broken; the other one was all right.
We use another with singular nouns:
- I do not like this pen. I am going to buy another one.
- Is there another café around here we could go to?
