The application of all/none; most; both/neither; another; other; the other; the second

We use all of, most of and none with plural nouns, uncountable nouns and object pronouns:

• All of the children were playing football.
• Most of the oranges are sweet.
• None of us speak German.

Both (of) and neither (of) are used to talk about two people or things:

• Both of my sisters are ginger.
• Neither of his students was clever.
• Neither brother has grey hair.

We can use other with singular uncountable nouns and with plural nouns:

• Other travel information can be obtained by calling the freephone number.
• Some music calms people; other music has the opposite effect.

The other is used with plural countable nouns:

• I don’t like this red dress. I prefer the other colour.
• His right arm was broken; the other one was all right.

We use another with singular nouns:

• I do not like this pen. I am going to buy another one.
• Is there another café around here we could go to?
