Predictions with will and be going to
When we talk about predictions which are based on intuition, knowledge or experience we use form will+infinitive:
- I think we will have a nice party tomorrow.
- He believes he will get a good job.
- I am afraid they will not come to school today.
If our prediction is based on facts and we can observe them now, we use form to be going to + infinitive:
- I am going to finish this book this week. (I can see, there's not a lot to be done)
- Look at the clouds; it is going to rain.
- Just see the way he's moving. He is going to walk into a tree.
