Perfect Tenses Review
Present Perfect is used to express past fact that have present consequences:
- I have seen this film twice.
- I have never been to London.
Present Perfect Continuous is used to express a continued or ongoing action that started in past and is continued until now.
- I have been living in London for two years.
- Paul is very tired. He has been working very hard.
Past Perfect is used when we want to say, that one action happened before another in the past.
- I had done my homework before you came.
- He had already gone, when Sarah arrived to the party.
Past Perfect Continuous is used to talk about longer actions in the past that happened before other past events:
- I had been waiting for the bus for 2 hours when it was announced about delay.
- She had been sleeping for three hours when we returned.
Future Perfect is used to talk about actions that will be completed before a certain time in the future:
- When we get married, I will have known Robert for four years.
- By ten o'clock, I will have finished my homework.
