The Future Tenses: Future Continuous, Future Perfect, tenses in time clauses referring to the future
Future Continuous is used to talk about activities that will be in progress at a certain time in the future:
- Will you be going to a new restaurant with us tonight?
- At midnight tonight, we will still be driving through the desert.
We use Future Perfect to talk about actions that will be completed before a certain time in the future:
- We will have translated the article by five o’clock.
- I will have finished the report by tonight.
When we refer to the future in time clauses, after when, as soon as, until, before and after we do not use will. We use Present Simple:
- When I get a good mark at school, my mother will buy me some sweets.
- When he get home, he will receive good news.
When we want to emphasise the fact that an activity will be finished before the other one happens, we use Present Perfect:
- After we have done the shopping, we will have a great dinner.
- I will cook a cake as soon as I have finished the washing up.
